Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

WHY WOULD I WANT TO ORDER A CUSTOM ARTWORK?

Maybe you want a piece of Stained Glass to match the décor in a specific room of your house, or maybe you’ve seen a piece you like but you’d like it in a different color pallete. Maybe you want to celebrate a milestone like a 50 year anniversary or honor an outgoing member of your board/group with a special gift using symbolic elements of your choosing. Maybe you know what you want and rather than spend time searching high and low to find something readymade, you’d rather have it designed and made to your specifications. There are many reasons why you might place a custom order...

WHAT DOES THE PROCESS OF ORDERING A CUSTOM PIECE LOOK LIKE?

If you've never ordered a custom piece before, the unknown can make the process seem daunting, but I will try my best to work with you in a way that will make you feel comfortable.
There is a “Request Custom Order” button on each page in my shop that you can click on to initiate a request. I’ll then get back with you. When discussing custom work, I prefer to collaborate with my customers by phone, and then confirm the details through an email before proceeding with the project. I’ll give you the opportunity to approve the design before I start and to see a cartoon or facsimile of the finished piece before you complete your purchase.

IS A DEPOSIT REQUIRED?

Depending on the size, level of personalization, and intricacy of a piece, I may ask for a deposit that would cover the cost of designing and materials--usually 45% of the final price.

HOW DO I PAY FOR A CUSTOM ORDER?

Once it is complete and ready to ship, I will list the finished piece in my Etsy shop as a Special/Custom Order. The price listed will be the balance due—either the total we agreed upon or 55% of the total if a deposit was already paid. I will then send you a direct URL for easy checkout.

WHY SHOULD I ORDER A CUSTOM PIECE FROM YOU RATHER THAN ANOTHER ETSY ARTIST?

I take great delight in providing my customers art for their everyday enjoyment and nothing makes me happier than a satisfied customer. As an artist, I work diligently and meticulously to insure the heirloom quality of my craftsmanship. I want you to receive an artistic piece that is both visually appealing and structurally sound—something you would be proud to display in your home or to give as a gift.
And custom work is my favorite. I especially enjoy designing and making custom pieces, because I’m creating with a specific person and purpose in mind.

DO YOU EVER REFUSE A CUSTOM ORDER REQUEST?
With almost 40 years’ experience working with glass, I usually feel qualified and confident to take on a project. However, if I think another glass artist that I know is better suited to fulfill your request, I will let you know and give you their contact info, because in the end, I want you to be happy.

HOW MUCH LEAD TIME DO I NEED TO HAVE YOU MAKE A CUSTOM ORDER?

That's a very good question, with a lot of variables effecting the answer. But a good rule of thumb is about 2-4 weeks to finalize a design and another 1-4 weeks to create the piece (depending on whether or not I need to order supplies/material or if I have everything on hand) and approximately 3-5 days for shipping/delivery. So it could be as little as 4-5 weeks or as long as 2-3 months. It also depends on the time of year, my family commitments, and how many other glass projects are in the works, but I promise to be truthful as to what you can expect after you contact me with your initial request and before you pay a penny.
